The importance of education as a tool to face the challenges of the information and knowledge society

Abstract

We live in a deterritorialized world, where there are no temporal and spatial barriers to human interaction, in a new era that offers many learning opportunities and where the physical space of the school is no longer the exclusive place to accumulate knowledge and prepare citizens for a life in society. Debates about information technologies, the construction of knowledge and the role of education become recurrent. Thus, this article aims to present a reflection on the importance of education as a tool to face the challenges of the information and knowledge society, based on the thoughts of several authors who corroborate these studies. It is hoped that this will open space for new discussions involving this topic.
