Analysis of the role of road safety stakeholders in preventing traffic accidents in Xai-Xai city

The article analysed the role of Road Safety Stakeholders in the prevention of Road Traffic Accidents in Mozambique, focusing on the complexity of the challenges faced by road safety, identifying multiple actors and underlying causes of the high rates of road traffic accidents in the country. Key stakeholders include government, traffic authorities, health institutions, civil society, and drivers, each playing distinct roles in preventing and mitigating these events. However, the effectiveness of the measures implemented so far has been limited, due to factors such as corruption, lack of coordination between entities, impunity and inadequacy of public policies. In its conception, a comprehensive review of the available literature on traffic accidents and road safety in Mozambique was used academic sources, thesis, dissertations, media articles, as well as the collection of primary data that consisted of semi-structured interviews involving four inspection authorities, five representatives of civil society and four drivers. It aims to analyze the role of road safety stakeholders in the prevention of road accidents in Mozambique, identify the causes of traffic accidents and describe the role of the main entities involved in road safety. The qualitative study enabled the evaluation of behavior, and attitudes related to road safety, but also, direct observation at critical points of traffic was adopted to verify the successful interventions.
