Three roses and the female gender in Japan

This text aims to present research that, through textual analysis and bibliographic references, aims to understand three manga series entitled Berusaiyu no Bara (1972), Banana Bread no Pudding (1977), and Shōjo Kakumei Utena (1996). The intention is to understand how Banana Bread no Pudding (1977) and Shoujo Kakumei Utena (1996) constitute evolved forms through which narratives by and for women in Japan have consolidated and changed in a discussion that revolves around the female gender and perhaps gender dysphoria. The research is also based on Chartier's idea that textual works can be cultural documents and, therefore, the manga studied in this research are considered the image-textual corpus of this research in addition to the discussion of psychoanalytic issues with an emphasis on gender issues. The result is an understanding of the female world, as depicted in these manga, in terms of their sexuality from the 1970s to the present day.
