Abstract

This critical review focuses on the Manual para el uso de métodos digitales en proyectos de humanidades, the latest addition to the editorial phenomenon of Digital Humanities handbooks. The book was published in 2024 by the GUMELAB project of the Free University of Berlin, a result of practical laboratory activities in the field of digital humanities, analyzing the reception of series and telenovelas in Chile and Colombia. The project was conducted by an interdisciplinary team in partnership with the University of Antioquia and the University of Campinas. The manual covers everything from project conception to the analysis of clean data, offering a practical and detailed guide for researchers interested in applying digital methods to their investigations. Additionally, it explores fundamental issues about research project design, use of APIs, natural language processing, management of born-digital data sources, among various other topics. In short, the work, written in Spanish and based on work with digital sources from a Latin American context, makes significant contributions to the field of digital humanities, especially for research from the Global South.
