Get Your Money, Black Man: Blackness Representations in “Formation” (2016), by Beyoncé and “This Is America” (2018), by Childish Gambino, Under Capitalist Realism Perspective

Abstract

The following research had as main objective to analise, under Fisher’s (2020) Capitalist Realism, the blackness representations in late capitalism, presented in “Formation” (2016), by Beyoncé, and “This is America” (2018), by Childish Gambino, considerated resistence hymns for the worldwide black communities. The metodology are guided by the french-ligned Greimasian Semiotics Theory, bias Barros (2005) studies. As Results, have been obtained that the music builten-up narratives in which the purchasing power are not only a guiding factor, but are too a undoubtably indispensable to this Community survival, that needs to adapt to the white-american dream, oblite to consumn and to flaunt their luxuous habits, establishing some kind of validation in the late capitalism context. As final considerations, are pointed that this is the negro vengeance over the white folk: the domination of the social spheres occur through the flaunting-over of one pattern of life that few might have. That said, this become a unnecessary doing, considering that the racismo keeps recreating itself daily, not being settled by the individuous purchasing power. The opressive racism don’t distinguish social classes.
