This work reflects on the displacements of meaning resulting from the circulation of images produced by the Brazilian social movement "Mães de Maio," which seeks redress for the memory of children killed by the police and aims for social transformations. The images function as media, communicating thoughts and actions, with an emphasis on their performative nature. We use images from the movement taken during protests in the streets and draw on theorists such as Gillian Rose, Ana Maria Mauad, Judith Butler, and Michel Foucault. Didi-Huberman's methodology is employed to analyze the images and their communications. We conclude that the circulation or performance of the images depicting the bodies of the mothers is fundamental to their constitution and change of meaning, creating space for social transformations and producing sites of change.
