Angola Janga: kingdom of runaway slaves's representation of black resistance in Palmares Quilombo

This article analyzes the representation of Black Resistance's memory in the graphic novel Angola Janga: Kingdom of Runaway Slaves, by Marcelo D’Salete. Angola Janga was published in 2017 by Veneta publishing house, having won the HQ Mix and Jabuti awards. This work portrays the cultural heritage of Serra da Barriga, or Palmares Quilombo, through the moviment for the emancipation of Black people, connecting the past and the present in its final chapter. In this sense, it resembles the main argument for the listing of Serra da Barriga. Chinen (2019) and Lima Gomes (2022) are some of the authors used to analyze the comic, while Rüsen (2016), Halbwachs (1990), Hall (2016), and Assmann (2008) are the main references for the concepts of representation and memory in this work.
